So they are on their way now, with Lord Hasten as well. And it does sound like Lady Benedette is travelling, perhaps with them as that would make sense.
Which of course puts me in a very interesting position. Father is on his way back, however I feel like I should not just leave upon his arrival. I've been the one handling the situation with Lireth. To leave now would probably not be wise.
Hopefully Father will agree with me there. Besides, Brigit is home and can handle the early courtship on her own.
[pause]
What a mess.

I thought I should probably let you know that my father is planning to return to Keirnan shortly. Once he arrives, I will likely be departing, since there is business for me to attend to in Rhia.

I am lucky, to have reached my age with so few major losses. Of course there have been some cousins, older relatives; the family is too big to avoid that. But no immediate family, save grandparents whom I was not close with.
Dragons willing, I will be able to continue to say this for many years to come.

Looks like I'll just have to accept it. Father's right, after all, I need to be in Rhia when Lady Benedette arrives. And Eriena is not yet ready to be left to her own devices.
I hate it when logic works against me.

Seven months now I've been here. Usually it seems much longer.
I would not be surprised in the least if this trip extends to the one year mark and then some.

My lords, my ladies, I do hope you are well. I hear news that you will be attending the grand wedding in Emeron, which I am certain will be quite the affair.
While obviously this event will keep you all busy for the near future, I would like to issue an invitation to all of you, on behalf of House Keirnan. My cousin would do well to have company not made up entirely of her own relatives and I can assure you that there will also be some wonderful food.

Really, this should be Jeremy and Cate's responsibility but no doubt they believe their role to be over. At least once Lord Tarmon is wed his sister shall finally be able to visit Rhia and that arrangement can go as planned.

Hello Father, I hope you are well.
I do have some news to report. First, I must apologize for not telling you about this sooner, however I believed that I could deal with it without bringing you in as well, something I hope you will agree with when all is said and done.
Eriena managed to get herself into some trouble concerning the prisoner that is currently being held here in Keirnan, until she can be relinquished to House Lireth. For a time the prisoner, a girl known as Charlotte who has also "pretended" to be the late Elthea of Lireth, escaped for a time but she has been recovered. I have already spoken with Lord Hasten about this matter and believe that he is satisfied with how it will be handled in the future and will not take any action against Eriena.
It was a tense period of time but it is over now and I believe it may have been for the best. Eriena has finally agreed that she will wed and I hope to invite the younger lords from Rowan here shortly.
Again, I am sorry to have withheld this from you. It was not done lightly.

Who would have thought so much trouble could come from one confused girl?
And one crazy one.

There's step one done. I expect that it will be the easy part. But you need not worry about that, not yet at least. I will handle it, all you have to do is make sure you don't let her out again.

Lord Hasten, I am pleased to be able to inform you that the horse thief has been successfully recaptured.

Is something the matter, cousin? You seem to be distracted of late.

I believe I shall go into the market today. It has been wonderful, seeing the fresh produce that has come into season. And I've always enjoyed the task of hunting down the best quality for the lowest price. Never back down from a challenge, that's what I say!

This plan really could backfire if Eriena proves that she can handle it all. I have been quite surprised so far, most of it pleasantly. I'm still not quite prepared to pass any final judgement though.
I do hope I won't have to manufacture my own crisis.

Well cousin, it's been a few weeks now since my father departed. How are you finding things in his absence?

I think your cook and I have made excellent progress so far. But of course, the final judgement rests with you so if I may have a moment of your time for this matter it would be most appreciated.

How lovely to see her making an effort. Perhaps this will be easier than I feared.
Which of course brings me to problem number two: how to get Father to take a break and soon. I wonder if he would agree to return home for a time. A time that ideally becomes quite a bit longer than originally intended.
It is worth a shot, at any rate. And he did agree to let Eriena try to manage on her own, to see why she should not want to.

Subtlety clearly is not working in my favour here. Whether it is because she suspects or simply lack of interest, I do not know. In either case, time to try the truth. What a novel concept that is.

Might I have a moment of your time, cousin?

Well cousin, this cook of yours certainly is a stubborn fellow. One would have thought an Atsirian man would be far less trouble. Then again, perhaps that is why he is no longer in Atsiria.
However I believe I have made some progress. This may however take longer than I anticipated.
In other news, Grandfather, I have come up with my answer to your request as to what I do for Rhia. In exactly 100 words.
I manage the minor affairs of Rhia, so that these matters are not something that you, Grandfather, need worry about. I train regularly alongside Rhia’s knights and ensure that all is well with them. I do my best to manage the large brood of family members that are always lurking around the castle, including my own wife and children (though I am thankful to say that at least Brigit requires less attention than most). I arrange hunting events to entertain those who wish to join me. And, most importantly, I provide you with the best damn food you’ve ever eaten.

It has been far too long since I was last in Keirnan. It is such a lovely city. A little backwards in its beliefs, to be sure, but just look at the seafood. Such wonderful potential.
Of course, the markets shall have to wait for now, as visiting family takes precedence over everything else. Not that I would have it any other way.

Cousin Eriena, Father, I am very pleased to inform you that I am heading out today for my visit. If all goes well then I hope to be there well in time for Lady Eriena's birthday. Thank the Dragons we live far enough south that winter travel is not that much more difficult than any other time of the year.
To my other relatives on this network, please make sure Rhia is still standing by the time I get back. I am quite fond of it and of you.

Hello cousin, I hope you and your lovely daughter are both well. My father tells me that you are having some trouble with the quality of food in Keirnan. This is a problem that I believe I may be of some assistance with, if you are willing.
